Deputies said a car hit a pedestrian in Grand Lake Township Sunday night. St. Louis County Sergeant Wade Rasch said the victim passed away at 4:30 a.m. Monday morning.
Rasch said the accident was reported just before 9:20 p.m. in rural Duluth. Deputies were called to the 6600-block of Industrial Road near Canosia Road in Grand Lake Township.
Rasch said a car traveling eastbound hit 65-year-old Charlene Kelly, of rural Duluth. Her husband said she has dementia and had been wondering around on a bike.
Authorities said neighbors, friends and family were driving around looking for Kelly at the time of the accident.
Witnesses said Kelly was standing in the road with her bike when she was hit. She was airlifted to Saint Luke's in Duluth with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the car was a 17-year-old male from Proctor. There was a passenger in his car, also a 17-year-old from Saginaw.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's office said no criminal charges are anticipated.
