The owner of Duluth's "Last Place on Earth" store will stay in jail until at least Monday.

Jim Carlson appeared in federal court in Duluth Thursday afternoon.  Police arrested Carlson Wednesday night, alleging he violated his federal probation by having a firearm.

The "Last Place on Earth," known for selling synthetic drugs, was closed after Carlson's arrest and remained closed as of Thursday afternoon.  The store had previously been closed following a police raid last Friday in which Carlson and his son were arrested.  The store reopened Tuesday night, several hours after Carlson was released on bail.

Carlson's attorney, Randall Tigue, said it is an "inoperable" 12 gauge shotgun.  Tigue said the shotgun was hidden and said Carlson didn't know about it because it wasn't taken in two earlier raids of the store.

Carlson has a federal detention hearing in Minneapolis on Monday.
