The public is invited to an open house to learn more about the Hwy 53 Relocation project.
The open house is scheduled for Monday, April 22, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Mountain Iron Community Center.
Open house attendees will be able to discuss the project with MnDOT staff and leave comments.
Topics to be discussed:
• Scoping and Environmental Impact Statement process.
• Project timelines.
• Project budget. (Costs of the layout alternatives are unknown at this time).

Hwy 53 must be rerouted due to a termination of easement rights. United Taconite has informed the state they want to mine under the current roadway, just south of Virginia.
