Congressman Rick Nolan has sent a petition to the federal government, asking them to hold off on the regional haze rule for taconite plants.
The Environmental Protection Agency finalized the Federal Implementation Plan last year.
In the petition, he cites "critical new information" that concerns "the accuracy of the EPA modeling data which predicts the impact on haze levels."
He also said he has concerns about the taconite industry being able to meet the timelines.
Nolan said that he believes the EPA has overlooked possible procedural errors.
The expected cost for the the upgrades to the taconite facilities is over $500 million dollars.
