SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Carl Levin says preliminary testing of a suspicious letter sent to his Saginaw office came back negative.

The Michigan Democrat says the office is open Thursday and he is thankful to authorities for responding quickly.

A staff member spent the night in a hospital as a precaution after discovering the letter Wednesday. The aide had no symptoms.

Levin says the FBI told him that testing done by the state Department of Community Health showed negative results.
