Duluth police say road conditions were the primary contributing factor for the crash killing a Two Harbors woman and a Duluth man on Friday, April 12.
The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. on Jean Duluth Road and Carrol Street. Killed in the crash were Susan Jean Schmitt, 39, and Jeremy Michael Bohlin, 36.
Authorities said the driving lanes were generally clear with spots of slush accumulating on center line and shoulder of the road.
An SUV, driven by Schmitt, was traveling south on Jean Duluth Road spun sideways into an oncoming tow truck, authorities said. Bohlin was a passenger in that SUV.
The 45-year-old tow truck driver was taken to Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth for non-life threatening injuries, and was later released. He was identified by police as Daniel John Rabold, of Duluth.
