Authorities have recovered the body of a snowmobiler who had been missing in the St. Croix River for two months.
Two Wisconsin DNR wardens located the body of 43-year-old James Harlan Frentress on Saturday, according to a press release from the Pine County Sheriff's Office. Frentress had been missing since his snowmobile broke through the ice on the river about four miles north of Soderbeck River Landing on Feb. 16.
Frentress' body was identified after being taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.
The area where Frentress went through the ice is isolated and has no direct road access. Authorities located Frentress' snowmobile on the night he went missing but were unable to conduct a search of the water due to dangerous river conditions.
The Pine County Sheriff's Office had been planning a large search for Frentress' body later this week.
