Wis. Board to Vote on Endangered Species Revisions

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The state Department of Natural Resources board is poised to make some changes to Wisconsin's endangered species list.

The DNR has proposed removing seven animals and eight plants from the list, including the barn owl, Blanding's turtle and Butler's garter snake. The agency also wants to add eight new animals to the list, including the black tern, Kirtland's warbler and the upland sandpiper.

The agency put together the proposal after completing a 20-month review of the list species' status. DNR officials also notes all actions the agency approves on public or private land require screening for endangered species and shrinking the list will reduce the regulatory impact on businesses and save money.

The Natural Resources Board is set to vote on the plan at a meeting May 22 in Madison.
