DETROIT (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard says a drawbridge came down on a 670-foot Great Lakes freighter passing through Detroit's Rouge River, damaging the vessel and the bridge.
The Detroit Free Press (http://on.freep.com/10QvtkY ) reports that the collision happened about 2:10 a.m. Sunday at the Jefferson Avenue bridge, just upstream from where the Rouge enters the Detroit River.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Christopher Yaw says the crew of the Herbert C. Jackson reports that it was passing under the bridge when the bridge closed on the vessel.
The ship sustained a gash in the hull, and the bridge also was damaged. There are no reported injuries.
