On this hectic and noisy downtown street...
Amid the hustle and bustle of downtown Duluth, there is Growing Apprehension just east of Lake Avenue.
"The customers are afraid to come here," Downtown business owner Dave Jouppi said. "Those people are mostly retired people, they will not come here. They are just afraid."
Police calls on the rise. And for many, it makes Superior Street one to avoid.
"I like the downtown feel of things, the convenience of things," Rosalie Sullivan said. "I'm a city person but I don't go out after dark."
Police records show calls between the months of January and March have increased on Superior and Michigan Streets from Lake to 2nd Avenue East. From 80 in 2008 to 630 in 2013.
Camped out here for days, we wanted to see for ourselves.
