A Duluth billboard that Minnesota health officials say is designed to "get people talking" has been censored by the same agency that put it up.
An ad promoting colon health with the words "Cover your butt! Get a colonoscopy" is up on Arrowhead Road between Arlington Avenue and Highway 53. It shows a portion of a man's buttocks with his pants slightly down.
Within the last few days, the Minnesota Department of Health put a white box on the center of their ad. Scott Smith, a department public information officer, said they have received complaints, but described adding the box as an "experiment to see if it keeps the conversation going."
Smith told Eyewitness News there are a couple dozen of the billboards up across the state, but the Duluth billboard is the only one now featuring the white box. Speaking about the public response to the ad campaign, Smith said "some people think it is offensive, but then someone else counters that."
Smith described the campaign as "positive overwhelmingly."
The ad will be removed within the next week, according to Smith. But he said it has nothing to do with any complaints.
