The classic story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde comes to life on stage this week in Duluth. More than 20 actors team up to put on the heart-pounding show Jekyll and Hyde The Musical
It's Lundeen Productions third annual summer theatrical production. This thrilling musical opens Thursday, July 11 at the Harbor City Theater at 332 W. Michigan Street in downtown Duluth.
The shows director Sheryl Jensen stopped by Good Morning Northland Tuesday to talk about the upcoming show. The musical is based on the 1886 novella by Robert Louis Stevenson by the same title, which Jensen says came about in a very interesting way. "Who [Stevenson] had a nightmare actually. He woke up and wrote it down," Jensen said.
The show follows the story of the misguided doctor who uses himself as a test subject as he tries to find a way to eliminate evil form the world. Jensen says this musical expands on the classic story with romance.
"Of course, there's always a love interest in musicals and Jekyll and Hyde you get not only one love interest, but two," she said.
A real life couple starts in this show. In the dual title roles is Dustin Hagen and wife, Jennifer Madill Hagen, plays Lucy. The two are the owners of the Madill Performing Arts Center in Duluth and last performed together in last year's musical, Cabaret.
This Gothic style musical features thrilling music and a cast of 20 talented area performers. Jekyll and Hyde will include a live orchestra, under the direction of Ken Ahlberg, who is also the show's vocal director.
Performances of Jekyll and Hyde The Musical will run Thursday-Saturday July 11-13 and Wednesday-Saturday on July 17-20 and July 24-27.
