Duluth, Minn. - Players with the Gitchi Gummi Soccer Club saw some international competition on Thursday on the campus of UMD.
About five dozen players from the country of Colombia are in town and faced Gitchi Gummi teams in exhibition matches. About nine matches were planned. The Columbian teams will be heading to Blaine, Minnesota for the 29th Annual Schwan's USA Cup, which starts Friday and goes until July 20th.
"The boys will see that they can compete with some of the top teams in the world, if you look at Colombia and all of South America really. They grow up playing soccer and here, these kids have played a long time and knowing they can match up right with them - they are having a good time," says U-16 Boys Coach Scott Anderson.
