The new outside play area at the University School Daycare-Downtown was built just for the kids.
The daycare has moved from the federal building, to 212 W. 2nd Street. Trepanier Hall is owned by AICHO, the American Indian Community Housing Organization.
"We are so happy with our new space. Before we had about 3500 sf, and now we have about 6700 sf. We have more bathrooms, and a gym for when it's not nice out," explained site director Barb Kennedy. "We are sad to have left the federal building though."
The center had to move out of the federal building in June, because of lead paint issues. Daycare leaders knew keeping a downtown daycare was important, so they found a new location fairly quickly. This was good news, for parents like Amber Swanberg, who works at Wheeler Associates.
"I was so relieved that they found a new place. My son really loves the new building. It's nice he's close to my work," she added.
There are openings for more children at the center. An open house is scheduled for next Wednesday, July 24th, from 5:30-7pm.
The center is 212 W. 2nd Street, in the alley between 2nd and 3rd Avenues West.
