A 74-year-old woman suffering from dementia has been missing since Saturday in Duluth. On Tuesday her family called on the community to help in the search.

Duluth Police said Dale Elizabeth Gerard was last seen boarding a Duluth Transit Authority bus in the area of Elinor and Grand Avenue. Days later with no trace of the woman it was taking a toll on her family.

“It's scary, very scary. It's hard. You try to keep going, but you're always wondering, waiting,” Gerard's son Mark said.

He said she slipped past security measures at her assisted living facility, Wesley Residence. Those measures were in place because she has been diagnosed with dementia and requires prescribed medication according to her son.

“Right now I don't know if she's on real-time or is she's back in 40-50 years ago. I don't know,” Gerard said.

He said the bus his mother boarded was headed toward Miller Hill Mall, but she did not get that far. Gerard said video from the DTA bus shows his mother exiting along Piedmont Avenue and 7th Street.

He believes she headed back toward her residence, 3 miles away, but he could not be sure.

“We've been driving around town aimlessly going in circles, but we're doing whatever we can possibly think of to try to locate her,”

The family gathered to consider their next steps on Tuesday, but fear was getting to Mark's wife Maria.

“She's out mom, what more can you say, and she's out there alone. So that's scary,” Maria Gerard said.

The family wanted everyone in the community to keep their eyes open and pass on any information to the Duluth Police Department.

“No information is too small. If you think you saw her on Saturday or Sunday, even a glimpse, any information would be helpful to the police,” Gerard said.

He said the family has been posting fliers around West Duluth with hopes it will bring in some leads.

Police said Dale Gerard has distinctive red marks on her chin, nose and cheeks. Authorities said she was wearing black dress pants, a flowered blouse and a pink sweater when she went missing. She is 5'5" and weighs 155 pounds. She has brown eyes and auburn-red hair.

If you know anything about Gerard's whereabouts, call 911.
