No charges will be filed against a Grand Rapids police officer who fired a shot to end a high-speed chase.

Officer William Saw fired a shot into the vehicle, ending the July 4 pursuit that had reached 100 miles per hour at times.  No one was injured.

The use of force was investigated by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and reviewed by Crow Wing County prosecutors.  According to the Grand Rapids Police Department, the prosecutors found Saw's use of force was "reasonable, legitimate, and restrained to that which was necessary."

Saw had been placed on paid administrative leave following the shooting, which is standard procedure.  He has been with the department for three years.

A 17-year-old Grand Rapids male was arrested on multiple charges after the chase, in which he allegedly tried to ram and run police cars and civilian vehicles off the road.
