An elderly woman from Duluth has been missing for over three weeks, but authorities found no trace of her after searching near Enger Park on Thursday.
74-year-old Dale Gerard disappeared after exiting a city bus along Piedmont Avenue on July 20. Her son, Mark Gerard, said she suffers from dementia and with no leads in the case every day wears on his family.
“Everyday we're waiting for that phone call. We all have hopes, we all want a positive outcome, but you're waiting for that phone call,” Gerard said.
The St. Louis County Rescue Squad searched the wooded areas near Enger Park because of the proximity to Gerard's last known location. It may be a scenic area, but Capt. Tom Crossmon said his squad was working hard to completely search the area.
“Some of this is very thick so literally we'll be searching the under bursh, getting in the thicker areas that people normally wouldn't travel,” Crossmon said.
He said volunteers turned out to make it a strong effort to search a few square miles below Enger Tower.
“We'll have about 30 searchers along with two canines. It's a pretty good sized area, but I think we can get it all done before dark,” Crossmon said.
That support means the world to Mark Gerard as he searched for his mother.
“The way the community comes together to help each other it's just...it's unbelieveable,” Gerard said.
The squad searched for hours, but found no trace of Gerard. The area can be crossed off the map, but Gerard's family continues to wait for answers.
“Any way that we can get her back. The family misses her. We need her back. She has a brand new great-grandson that was born in the last few days,” Mark Gerard said.
He holds out hope that his mother will be found safe so she can meet the newest member of her family.
Capt. Crossmon said the rescue squad does have other areas in mind to search, but would not release details on Thursday. He also asked anyone living in the area to thoroughly search there property to help eliminate locations as well.
If you have seen Gerard or have any information authorities ask that you call 911.
