FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Sheriff's deputies are telling residents of an area outside Yosemite National Park where a wildfire is burning to evacuate their homes.

Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Scott Johnson said officers went door-to-door to deliver the news Thursday afternoon as flames approached a subdivision with 268 homes.

Johnson says deputies won't force people to leave, but he stressed that the fire poses an imminent threat.

The park remains open, but residents and visitors also are being encouraged to evacuate another 1,300 or so homes and several popular camping areas outside Yosemite.

The fire started Saturday and had grown to more than 84-square miles by Thursday morning.
