Health officials say Minnesota's suicide rate is gradually rising.
The rate rose to 12.4 per 100,000 people last year. That's up from 11.2 the previous year.
Minnesota's new rate is close to the national average. The state health department reports 684 suicides in the most recent period. They said generally, the rates are inching upward.
The Minnesota Department of Health is calling for an updated suicide prevention plan. They reported that in 2010, Minnesota had the 10th-lowest suicide rate of all the states.
