Three Northland congressmen signed the letter to the president asking for a vote on the decision about a strike on Syria: Minnesota's Rick Nolan, Wisconsin's Sean Duffy and Michigan's Dan Benishek.

Saturday, Minnesota's two U.S. senators reacted to Obama's announcement. Senators Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar both said they strongly oppose boots on the ground.

Franken said that although there are no good options on Syria, there have to be consequences for the "horrendous" use of chemical weapons. He said whatever action the U.S. takes should be limited, and that the role of Congress in the decision will be important.

Klobuchar said she believes the president is right to consult Congress, and they should carefully consider the evidence. She urged the president to continue to work with his international allies.
