A northwestern Ontario bow hunter is safe after spending several hours surrounded by seven bears over the weekend.

Ontario Provincial Police say three adult bears and four cubs surrounded the man in a hunting stand near Dryden on Saturday afternoon.  A camp owner discovered the situation when he went to see why the hunter had not returned.

The camp owner called OPP officers, who helped bait the bears so the hunter could get out of the tree without incident.  No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Dryden is about a two-hour drive from International Falls, Minn.
