Duluth, Minn. - The seventh ranked UMD Bulldogs ran away with a win over Sioux Falls in their season opener on Saturday, winning 32-7.

Head Coach Curt Wiese says freshman starting quarterback Drew Bauer was composed in his Bulldog debut and the UMD defense offered support with five sacks and an interception.

"I thought our defensive front seven played extremely well, they shut down their (Sioux Falls) run game early on and did a good job getting pressure on the quarterback, which helped our secondary be able to play fast, so overall, I think that's the fastest I've seen our defense play. They were prepared well and came out ready to play," says Wiese.

"We wanted to shut out to start it off, really to tell you the truth. But, it was a good start. We need to keep going every week with the same performance," says senior defensive back Kenny Chowa.

"Offense overall, same with the offensive line, we have some young guys filling spots, they were all so composed. They didn't over-think, they just did their job and we worked well as a team," says junior running back Austin Sikorski.

UMD visits Upper Iowa on Saturday, with kickoff set for 6:00 pm. The Peacocks are also 1-0.
