The last tree planting of the year in the city of Duluth will take place on Thursday, September 26th.
Volunteers can meet at the Lakewalk bridge between London Road and Superior Street at 61st Avenue East. The planting parties are organized by the city.
"(Trees) act as windbreaks and provide shade to homes, which reduces energy costs, and they build a stronger community," says Judy Gibbs, Trees and Trails Coordinator with the City of Duluth. She tells us that statistics have show that crime rates decrease and teen confidence levels increase with more trees.
She added, "When September rolls around, it's time to get some trees in the ground."
