At least one man is displaced after fire ravaged a home on the 1000 block of W 2nd St. Thursday night.
The Duluth Fire Dept. responded just after 6:15 p.m. and found heavy fire on the main floor with extension to the second floor.
"It was a difficult fire to fight with fire on two floors, but we were able to manage to save the home next door from any damage," said Assistant Fire Chief Erik Simonson. "The house on the upper side is only about two feet away from this house, so that was one of our primary concerns."
One occupant was home at the time of the fire, but was able to escape without injury. The Red Cross is assisting him find shelter.
Simonson estimates the damage to the house to be in the $40-$50,000 range.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Simonson says that there is no indication initially that would deem it suspicious.
