Ontario Provincial Police say five people were killed in a crash so severe the number of victims was not immediately clear.
The crash happened Saturday night on Highway 17, about 170 kilometers (105 miles) west of Thunder Bay, or about 15 kilometers east of English River. The OPP says a westbound pickup truck collided with an eastbound tractor trailer unit.
The OPP said Sunday night that four males in the pickup truck and one man in the tractor trailer were killed. The driver of the tractor trailer was identified as Sukhwinder S. Thandi, 43, of Cambridge, Ont.
The four males killed in the pickup truck have not been positively identified, and the OPP said next of kin are still being notified.
Two other commercial vehicles were damaged in the collision, but their occupants were not injured.
Highway 17 was closed for twelve hours following the crash.
