The Duluth Fire Department estimates a fire caused about $30,000 damage to a West Duluth duplex on Saturday evening.
An occupant of the lower unit at 511 N. 57th Ave. West saw smoke coming from the front wall and called 911 just after 8 p.m. No one was injured.
Fire damage was limited to the wall cavity, but both apartments suffered minor smoke damage. The fire department said the building will not be habitable before repairs are made, and the Red Cross is assisting the occupants of the lower unit.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
