Bemidji will host the Minnesota Governor's Deer Hunting Opener in 2014.

Gov. Mark Dayton made the announcement Friday in Fergus Falls, which is hosting the event this year.  The event was held in Biwabik in 2011.

"We’re excited about having the governor help showcase the Bemidji area," said Dennelle Hilliard, executive director of the city’s visitor and convention bureau, in a press release.  "We have a great public land base and wonderful natural resources for people to enjoy."

The event is coordinated by the DNR, the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, and Explore Minnesota Tourism.
