Fifth-ranked UMD had home field advantage as the took on No. 14 Emporia State in the first round of the NCAA Division II football tournament.
The Bulldogs opened up with a 55-yard touchdown run from freshman quarterback Drew Bauer. Austin Sikorski followed with a 56-yard rushing touchdown. Bauer found the endzone three more times himself before connecting with Jeremy Reierson in the endzone. On a frigid afternoon at Malosky Stadium, UMD defeated Emporia State 55-13 to advance to the next round, where they will play top seed Northwest Missouri State on the road.
