The interim president of the Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon has stepped down, a little more than a month after taking the job.

Tone Coughlin told Eyewitness News he left the position because of his ongoing, prior commitments.

Last Monday, longtime Beargrease Board Member Jason Rice, became the acting president.

Coughlin, the NorthShore Inline Marathon race director and Marshall School swimming coach, took the top role last month when financial trouble put the 30th running of the Beargrease in jeopardy.

On Oct. 17th, longtime Race Coordinator and Board President Pat Olson announced that there was not enough funding to hold the race.

By Oct. 21st, the Beargrease Board voted Coughlin into the position of interim president, and the Beargrease was back.

The 30th annual Beargrease is scheduled for January 26th.
