There are reportedly more payment problems at the Essar Steel Minnesota project.
According to trade unions, some of the contractors have pulled off the site in Nashwauk until they get payment in full. The workforce at the site is now considerably smaller than what Essar had told construction companies to expect.
Essar says they are still working on securing financing and have adjusted the number of workers on-site to fulfill only critical needs.
Essar plans to build a 7 million ton per year pellet plant and mine the taconite on site. The company has estimated that they will begin producing pellets in the first part of 2015.
