It was back to the books for Twin Ports college students Tuesday as a new spring semester begins. However, it's not the classes they're complaining about.

This is Ben Wierman's first year at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD).  He says it was a long winter break.  He's ready to be back to class and the cold temps helped to wake him up for it.

"It's like a couple cups of coffee for ya," Wierman said.  "It's like the first thing you do when you go outside, is whoa, I'm awake!"

UMD Sophomore Rachael Finley says she enjoyed a winter break full of family, but she's ready to see her college friends again.  She was thankful she bundled up for the first day of the semester.

"I was parked in a parking lot far away, so I'm glad I have my winter hat and my gloves and mittens," Finley said.

Finley might be happy to be back at UMD, but she, like many of her peers, can't wait for warmer temperatures. "I can't wait for the snow to melt," she said.

Both UMD and the University of Wisconsin Superior started their spring semester classes Tuesday.
