More than 70 snowmobilers are riding hundreds of miles through the cold to raise money for people with disabilities.

Riders set off from Superior Shores Lodge in Two Harbors at 8:30 Thursday morning for the 26th Annual running of the Northland 300.

Cathy Karkula, with Special Olympics Minnesota, said participants are taking time away from work and their families to be involved in the event that raises money for the organization.

"What Special Olympics does for them and their lives is phenomenal," Karkula told Eyewitness News. "It's a program we believe in that helps people with intellectual disabilities."

Snowmobilers ride north from Two Harbors, and through the Iron Range to Ely before heading back.
