Duluth, Minn. - Two UMD football coaches have been named the Liberty Mutual Division II Coach of the Year, but only Curt Wiese did it in his first year.

Wiese was the guest of honor at a public ceremony at Black Woods Grill and Bar in Duluth on Monday afternoon. He went 11-2 in his first year, leading the Bulldogs to an NSIC North Division Title and a playoff spot. The award included $50,000 in money for charities of Wiese's choosing as well as $20,000 for the UMD Alumni Association. Former UMD Head Coach and Athletic Director Bob Nielson won the same award back in 2010 and Coach Wiese says he is in contact with Nielson, who was very complimentary. Meanwhile, Wiese is very appreciative of the public support.

"This award goes to Bulldog Country, our staff and our football program and we have all put a lot of work into giving back to this community that has helped support our football program and it is a great night for Bulldog Football and Bulldog Athletics," says Wiese.
