Do you remember your favorite book character from when you were a kid? Would you be willing to dress up as them?

That's exactly what the kids did Friday at St. James Catholic School in Duluth. It's part of the National Catholic Schools week.

In order to ditch their usual uniform of khakis and white polo shirts, the kids had to bring in a food item to donate to the local pantry.

From kindergarten to eighth grade, the kids donned their best book costumes. Teachers said it's a great way to get kids excited about reading.

"It's really nice to see what books they really like and enjoy, and what they remember about the book," said first grade teacher, Barbara Mollison.

Kids were dressed up as Winnie the Pooh, Little Red Riding Hood, Noah from the Bible, Snow White, and Jack Sparrow, to name a few. Harry Potter and characters from the Hunger Games were also a big hit.
