Advocates for the homeless in Duluth held a donation drive on Saturday.
"Beat the Cold" is the first of what organizers hope will be an annual event. The Duluth Chapter of Thrivent Financial and the Duluth Street Outreach Team co-sponsored the drive. The goal was to collect tents, tarps, sleeping bags, coats, boots and anything to help people experiencing homelessness stave off this winter's brutal cold.
"Most people are basically only one paycheck away from being homeless," said Street Outreach Volunteer Jacey Hoecker. "So this can happen to any one of us at any time, and as a community we need to take care of each other and help."
