David Devere of 'Savvy Nomad' brought some wine tips to share with Good Morning Northland on Friday.
His first tip is to check the cork. David says your waiter will present you with the cork after he removes it from the bottle. "All you are doing is checking that the label on the cork, matches the label on the bottle," David tells us. That way, you know the wine you bought is actually *in* the bottle!
The waiter will then pour a small sample of wine in your glass. This is for you to smell. "You're particularly looking for cork taint," David tells us. Cork taint smells kind of like cardboard in warm water. It's very easy to tell if cork taint is present.
After that, take a taste of the wine sample. "Now you're determining that it tastes right," he says. It may have turned into vinegar, or oxidized. If it tastes great, perfect. If it tastes tainted, return the bottle. "This is not your opportunity to return the bottle if you don't *like* the bottle that you ordered," David stressed.
