Duluth East trailed Elk River-Zimmerman by a goal twice in the section 7AA championship, but the Greyhounds never gave up. Instead, they rallied late in the third period to force overtime and scored the game winner to earn their sixth straight section title.
After a scoreless first period, Reggie Lutz netted a rebound to put the Elks on the board in the second. With 40 seconds to go in the period, Bryton Lutzka scored on a second chance of his own to put Duluth East on the board. But just seconds later, Elk River-Zimmerman jumped out front again off the stick of Jake Jaremko.
The score stayed 2-1 until late in the final period when Alex Spencer tied it up with around two minutes to go. In the extra session, Nick Altmann tried a sharp angle shot from the corner and found twine, giving Duluth East a 3-2 victory and sending the Greyhounds back to the state tournament.
