The Avengers: Age of Ultron is still over a year away from release, but that won't stop fans from wondering how Marvel Studios is going to follow up the monster success of 2012's The Avengers. According to one of the sequel's stars, Scarlett Johansson, fans needn't worry, because writer-director Joss Whedon's Age of Ultron script is "totally solid."
"I was just amazed [with the script]," Johansson told Collider."Joss is something else, he really is. He locks himself away for God knows how long; I think he has the dark circles to prove it. [He] just came out with something totally solid. I was really impressed by his ability to make this ever-expanding Marvel universe feel very close-knit and cerebral and progressive. I mean this movie feels like the continuation of The Avengers, it doesn’t feel like a tag-on or the rehashed version or just 'let’s throw a bunch of new characters in there and keep the thing alive.' It really feels like the next step, and all of our characters, our relationships with one another continue to progress, become more intertwined, more complicated, more meshed. And the film has a lot of great comic book moments that the fans are gonna love, but it’s also got a lot of really great dramatic moments that audience members, I think, will really relate to."
Johansson has been keeping busy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, playing Black Widow in next month's Captain America: Winter Soldier, but news of her pregnancy indicated that her scenes in Age of Ultron would either need to be expedited or delayed. According to a recent interview with The Huffington Post, Johansson claimed that everything with Age of Ultron was "full steam ahead.".
"We start shooting in three weeks and I'm stunt training and we're good to go," said the actress. "You know, I think it's something that is [laughing] hard to talk about, exactly. You know, trying to skirt around your question exactly [laughs] — and, you know, doing a poor job of it. But, you know, like I said, everything is exactly on schedule. The Black Widow always wins and will continue to."
Those looking for a preview for Age of Ultron need to look no further than The Winter Soldier. According to a separate Collider piece, Marvel's Kevin Feige revealed that Whedon directed one of Winter Soldier's post-credits scenes.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron opens May 1, 2015, and reunites Black Widow with Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Dr. Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) as well as with newcomers the Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson).
