MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Wisconsin will stay close to home for the opening weekend of the NCAA tournament.
The Badgers are a No. 2 seed and will open Thursday against 15th-seeded American at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. It's barely a 90-minute drive west down Interstate 94 from Madison.
Wisconsin may have lost in the Big Ten semifinals, but its season-long body of work virtually assured them of getting a high seed and staying in the state.
The other Wisconsin school in the NCAAs is Milwaukee, a No. 15 seed in the East to face second-seeded Villanova in Buffalo.
Milwaukee upset Green Bay en route to the Horizon League tournament title. The Phoenix won the regular season title but were snubbed for the NCAAs.
