Everyone wants healthy kids - and health insurance is certainly a big part of it. But are more kids insured today? ABC's Dr. Timothy Johnson has more in this Medical Minute.
Children are our future - one that's the most vulnerable to a lack of health insurance. It often means no checkups, no vaccinations. Here is some great news. According to a new report by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the percentage of American children going without health insurance has declined, from 9.7% in 2008 to 7.5% in 2012.
Children gained coverage in all 50 states, and disparities in coverage by race and ethnicity are heading downward.
With the Affordable Care Act kicking in, even more children will get coverage.
Children who had fallen through the cracks - low income, minority kids without insurance - look to gain the most. Sorry about all the shots, kids, but take a lollypop - you'll be healthier in the long run.
