Following Tuesday's final vote in the U.S. House of Representative, longtime 8th District Representative Jim Oberstar was honored with a moment of silence.
Oberstar's successor, Rep. Rick Nolan (D-Minn.), presided over the time in honor of Oberstar, who served 18 terms in the House. He chaired the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure from 2007 to 2011.
Nolan said the House will entertain formal tributes to Oberstar on May 19 following the last votes of the day.
Oberstar passed away unexpectedly on Saturday at the age of 79.
