After 14 years at the University of Minnesota Duluth, Swenson College of Science and Engineering Dean James Riehl is retiring.
A crowd of friends, family and colleagues filled the Kirby Ballroom Monday afternoon to celebrate Riehl's career. The 65-year-old has decades of experience in education, and even after he retires on June 30, he tells Eyewitness News that he plans to continue working in the field.
"It has been a fantastic ride, and I've missed doing teaching. I haven't taught in a long time and I'd like to go back to the classroom a little bit," Riehl said.
According to UMD, Riehl is returning the the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry faculty on a half-time basis, and finishing two books that he has been working on.
Riehl said he's "leaving the Dean's office on a high note," and that "it has been an incredible journey."
