Vikings running back Adrian Peterson picked up some batting tip from former Twin Jim Thome.
Minneapolis, Minn. - The 85th All-Star Game is Tuesday night at Target Field, but thousands of fans flocked to the stadium on Sunday for an afternoon and evening of festivities.
The MLB All-Star Futures Game was played in the afternoon, with Hall of Famer Bert Blyleven and two-time World Series manager Tom Kelly managing the squads. It features the top prospects in baseball. Kelly managed the U.S. Team while Blyleven managed the World Team and Texas Rangers third baseman Joey Gallo connected a two-run homer in the sixth inning as the U.S. Team won 3-2. The U.S. has won five straight Futures games.
The Legends & Celebrity All-Star Game was Sunday evening, featuring actors James Denton and Rob Riggle, Grammy-Award winning rapper Nelly along with Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, Wild left wing Zach Parise and Lynx star Maya Moore. Also participating were former Twins Jim Thome and Jack Morris, along with baseball greats John Smoltz, Mike Piazza, Dwight Gooden, Rollie Fingers and Rickey Henderson. Minnesota native and NFL star Larry Fitzgerald also participated.
On Monday night, the Home Run Derby will take center stage at Target Field. It will feature Twins second baseman Brian Dozier and Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau, who played for the Twins from 2003 to 2013.
The All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday night.
