Thunder Bay Police are increasing patrols after two hotel robberies two nights apart, both involving a chemical spray.

The first robbery happened early Sunday morning at the Airlane Hotel and Conference Centre on Arthur Street.  A staff member received minor injuries when sprayed with a chemical agent by a lone male robber, who also had a knife.

In the second case, a robber allegedly threatened a clerk at the Nor' Wester Resort Hotel on Highway 61 just before Midnight Monday with a knife and a can of "bear spray."  There were no injuries in that case.

Cash was stolen in both robberies.

In a press release Tuesday, Thunder Bay Police said officers are working with local hotels to provide information for employee safety and increasing patrols.

Police asked anyone with information about the incidents to call them at 807-684-1200.  Anonymous tips can also be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.tipsubmit.com.
