Lia Lando is a graduate of Syracuse University's Newhouse School. Her career in journalism started at Dateline, NBC where she was selected for a prestigious internship and worked alongside Stone Phillips and Jane Pauley.
Lia was then hired by WETM TV the NBC affiliate in Elmira, NY. She produced and co-anchored the stations morning newscast and was quickly promoted to produce and anchor a brand new 5PM show.
While Lia was in Elmira, her future husband was working on the 86th floor of The World Trade Center in New York City. Thankfully he was late for work when terrorists attacked his building on 9/11. Nick lost 42 co-workers that day. Lia interviewed him moments after the attacks.
The events of 9/11 shaped Lia's career. She turned down other offers in journalism to move to New York City to be closer to Nick. Shortly after her move she was hired as a freelance anchor and reporter for News 12 Westchester and New Jersey.
In 2005 Lia came to Rochester with her husband and son to anchor a local 10PM newscast. She left journalism for a couple of years to work in public relations for
PAETEC before she was hired to anchor at WIVB in Buffalo.
Now Lia is happy to be back home anchoring in Rochester here at News 10NBC.
Lia and her husband love living in Rochester with their two children. They enjoy spending time on Keuka Lake.
Another interesting fact about Lia, she used to sing the national anthem at Syracuse University basketball games inside the Carrier Dome. She even sang at a Knicks/Spurrs game.
