What do you get when you mix together shopping and helping out a good cause?
You get Fashion Week.
The annual event that helps a great local organization and local stores got underway Thursday.
If you ever needed an excuse to shop for clothes or hit a specialty shop, this is the time. Fashion Week of Rochester is all about checking out new places, making purchases, and providing money for the Center for Youth and local businesses.
Shoppers purchase Fashion Week ticket, which gets them rides to local shops and boutiques, drinks and discounts.
“Last year was the first time and we loved it,” Patti Fazio, a shopper, said.
Julie Wegman, a new customer, said, “It's fun. We're having a great time as a group. This is the first time I have been to this store, so it's nice to see some places I haven't seen before.”
The purpose of Fashion Week is really three fold: first, raise money for The Center for Youth, which helps homeless teens. The center is in desperate need of more funding.
“I think since around two years ago, we've lost about 50% of our funding,” said Tamu Brown from The Center for Youth. “Is this a big help? Yes, definitely.”
The second goal is to raise awareness of some of our incredible local shops, like Parkleigh.
“We saw customers who haven't been in for a year or so, and then new faces,” Jeannine Klee said. “We loved every aspect of it.”
The third goal is to give participants a great time and a great shopping experience.
“We got a lot more stops, a lot more shopping, and a lot more fun,” Fazio said.
Fashion Week raised $38,000 the first year, $55,000 the second, and hopes to raise $100,000 for the Center for Youth this year.
You can still take part Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
