Deputies say a Genesee County man is dead after he lost control of his car and collided with a large tree in Oakfield.
The Genesee County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened Tuesday evening on Lockport Road near Lewiston Road in Oakfield. Officials say that 21-year-old Stephen F. Terry, of South Alabama, was driving westbound on Lockport Road with 19-year-old Jonathan T. Coombs, of Oakfield, when Terry lost control of the vehicle.
Deputies say Terry's car turned sidewards and slid off the road. The car then went through a yard, striking some small pine trees, before it hit a larger tree. Officials say Coombs was apparently ejected from the car.
Terry was pronounced dead at the scene and Coombs was transported by helicopter to Erie County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The incident is still being investigated and deputies say they have not yet determined a cause for the crash.
