October is Bullying Awareness Month and on Friday, students in East Rochester heard from a speaker who has been of victim of bullying himself.
Fabian Ramirez spoke to middle and high school students Friday morning. He is an anti-bullying speaker and drug prevention specialist based out of Dallas. He was bullied in middle school and knows first hand the psychological impact that bullying can have on students.
Ramirez says the solution involves the golden rule -- treat others as you would want to be treated and told the kids there are ways to not be a victim. “People are not going to like you at some point but if you allow them to have power over you, then that's when you become victimized and I don't want them to have a victimized mentality. I want them to walk away from this presentation being empowered to take control of their lives.
