Particle physicist Carl Hagen spoke to a crowd at St. John Fisher College Wednesday about the so-called "god particle."
Hagen, a physicist at the University of Rochester, was part of a team that came up with the theory that explained how all matter in the universe got its size and shape.
That theory became known as the Higg’s Boson Existence and eventually, the term, “God Particle” was coined.
Carl Hagen, University of Rochester Physicist, said, “It’s a misnomer in that it conveys a connection to theology and so forth. It is somewhat reasonable when you realize all the things it does. it gives mass to the particles that we are familiar with, and in that sense its influence is far more pervasive than any other particle which has come down the pike.”
Scientists found a particle this past July which they say is a major breakthrough in finding the god particle.
