Drivers to get refund after two carmakers overstate gas mileage

Nearly one million drivers will get some money back, after two carmakers overstate their gas mileage.

The advertised gas mileage for 13 Hyundai and Kia models doesn't reflect the actual mileage, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA launched an audit after about a dozen driver complaints.

The discrepancy affects some versions of Hyundai’s Elantra, Sonata Hybrid, Accent, Azera, Genesis, Tucson, Veloster and Santa Fe models, as well as the Kia Sorrento, Rio, Soul, Sportage and Optima hybrid. The vehicles are from model years 2011 through 2013.

The automakers are apologizing for a “procedural error" and executives say they'll pay owners for the difference in gas mileage.

Window stickers will also be changed.
